I know ALL about the black bottle because 3 years ago mine split at the joint halfway down, dumped the engine water, and fried my engine to the point where it scored a cylinder and it was cheaper ($6000 for a full replacement is cheaper?) to buy a replacement engine.Quote:
There is always the possibility you are talking about the radiator overflow bottle :). Unless you have the new white one.
I made damm sure I got a shiny new white upgrade bottle, which so far is a thing of beauty and still in one piece.
So yes, all the stories about the black bottle are true.
My black one is on the way out, Does MR's sell the white ones? Does anyone know what they sell for roughly?
Just goes to show.....there's no such thing as a stupid question....;)
mine's fine...
but get a low water coolant alarm, the engine saver one (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/showthread.php't=27874&page=5), installed it in my disco last year, well worth the money.
Matt.
I bought one of these
http://www.aulro.com/apc/showproduct...duct=260&cat=6
with a float for the header tank which is higher than the radiator which is higher than the v8, so should have plenty of warning long before the engine is dry.
oh yeah i bought this after a top hose let go & gave us a little scare.
Cheap insurance.
Also recommend you check if you still have the original plastic plugs in the top of the radiator core and thermostat. If you do, replace them with the brass ones, which don't cost much. The plastic ones twist the head when you undo them. Eventually, the twist cracks and you have an air and/or coolant leak. Obviously cheap rubbish LR fitted on a cost saving thing cause they probably last until the warranty runs out and then its not their problem it's yours.
