    Hybrid

    This might just be lunacy, I have been thinking about turning my Disco into a ute, but I will still have carpet and fluffy stuff so i had a thought . I love series III landies how about putting a short wheel base ute on the disco frame. It gets ride of the crap airconditioner and the carpet and I get the best vents eva.

    Has anyone done or heard of this or should I just take a valium and calm down

    Just get an old rangie running chassis and put the series body on it, cheaper than a disco. I dont think you can get a series body on disco chassis engineered and rego'd. Or just buy a rear ended disco and cut away !

    Seen a few here, over the past few years, wouldn't be too hard to do....

    There is the minor problem that the wheelbase of the Series 3 is 88" and the Disco 100" which implies either significant body modifications or chassis modifications. Also other minor problems in that you will have to provide wheel spats to extend out over the tyres. Most similar conversions seem to have used cut down lwb Series rear tubs.

    a mate was doing one on a shortened rangie chassis
    it was 99% done (I think he drove it around yard) then he lost interest and stripped it for the running gear for another project
    the chassis and body are still there in his shed (missing the engine, g'box and diffs)
    I'm sure he'd sell it for the right offer
    and if you only wanted the chassis I'm sure that'd be fairly cheap he has another rangie chassis or 2

    Get hold of the DVD "A 4x4 is born"
    He covers it step by step and it will motivate you. D1's are getting so cheap now it wouldnt hurt to use one.
    I have owned a hybrid (on a rangie chassis) and found the best way to register it was as a Series rover with upgraded suspension and drivetrain, rather than as a Disco with a Series body.

    Thanks for the offer big fella but as I live in Darwin NT it would probably cost me more to transport it up here than what you want for it

    I think I wil hunt up a series III tray back (there are quite a few up here around the place)

    That fixes trying to do body work or shortening the chassis, then keep my eye out for a rolled or old rangie to put it on
