He covers it step by step and it will motivate you. D1's are getting so cheap now it wouldnt hurt to use one.
I have owned a hybrid (on a rangie chassis) and found the best way to register it was as a Series rover with upgraded suspension and drivetrain, rather than as a Disco with a Series body.

However as soon as the chassis number is entered into the RTA computer it will come up as as a 90s disco and the body will have to comply with a 90s disco ADRs.

Unless the Disco chassis number magically matches the Series Landy chassis number...

Sorry to say it but the RTA people are not stupid.

Certainly here in the ACT as well as the ususal roadworthy check it the car will have to go through a rebirthing check where the numbers and locations are thoroughly checked - sorry to say it - but playing around with numbers will not get through the system.

It worked for me but that was in QLD.........
My advice would be to sell the disco, buy a cheap 110 (they can be had for under 2k these days) and modify that into whatever body configuration you want.

Not sure where you get that figure - a cursory search gave the cheapest 110 (actually a Defender as no 110s found) at $9,999. I can't remember seeing any 110s, even write-offs as cheap as $2k, although I have to admit I don't regularly search the ads. My impression is that 110s as opposed to Defenders are pretty thin on the ground as far as buying them goes.

Fortunately in the Territory we had a Chief minister who was a rev head, so we have some very good rules for modifying a vehicle. The car has to go through inspection with the body off then when it is fitted, and it is registered as a one off manufactured vehicle. The NT has the best rules regarding modifications that I have seen any where in Aust.

I didnt mean to say that all 110's are only worth that
The 'project specials' are definitly out there however. I've bought two in the last 12 months for 2k or less (yes they were both V8's, runners but needed work). There was a recent thread on this forum regarding someone else picking up a very good V8 for 2k but this was an exceptional deal (I think he also bought another one recently for similar money). So the cheap 'project' or parts vehicles are out there.......
