Mine has the fuel temp logic disabled in the ecu - not my doing. The WSM states that the temp defaults to 60 deg C if the sensor fails so I suppose it uses the same temp when the sender is disabled.Quote:

The speedo thing is interesting. Occasionally when I start up the speedo shoots up to about 80kmh, hangs there for a couple of seconds then drops to zero again. Doesn't seem to be any correlation otherwise though.
Andrew must admit the same thought had occurred to me, it does seem to behave better when given a spanking. It's such a slug starting off with a cold engine though that it's hard to do that.
I had also noticed that it's worse when starting from cold during the middle of the day when the ambient temp is higher, as in coming home from work.
I have only checked 3 Defenders & 2 Disco's but all have the fuel temp disabled. The ECU does see the fuel temp change but obviously this info is ignored.
I have also noted that Rovacom reads the High / Low range selector switch as reversed in the ECU. This would also have some effect on the sensitivity of the accelerator. I assume that Land Rover may have done this deliberatly in later fuel maps to try & remove the Kangaroo effect that the throttle gives. (I have not seen LandRover's TestBook results). The only way to change this would be to install a relay in the Hi/Lo circuit to reverse the selector switch contact. I have not tried it yet so I dont know if the effect would be worth the effort.
I'm still new to the Rovacom world of diagnostics so here are some thoughts............
The throttle response versus High or Low range would be processed in a different part of the ECU & then passed to the fuel processing. The fuel MAP side may not be interested in the High range sensing. This again may be deliberate to simplify the changes to the MAP codes.

When I installed a new ECU into my Defender it also had the mistery of running like a slug when cold, but improved sometimes after a restart.
Touch wood it seems OK at the moment after downloading a new Vehicle / Fuel Map.
The faulty fuel pump would also give the above symptoms as the injectors would not get the required pressure.

Well this vehicle really has me stumped. :confused:
It has always been fairly sluggish when cold. Out the end of our driveway is a fairly steep hill and I usually have to chug up in 2nd gear when cold, go into 3rd and it just dies. Recently it seems to have been getting worse, barely making it up the hill in 2nd (doesn't have any problems when warm).
This morning I turned out of the driveway expecting the usual and it took off up the hill like a scalded cat, in fact so responsive that it scared me. :eek:
