Aux tank and towbar problem - defender

When we got our fender I got a Landrover Genuine towbar. It wasn't too expensive, and it seemed to sit well up out of the way.

Anyway, I've been looking for a larger fuel tank and have found one by ARB that I like that doesn't hang down too much. Unfortunately it won't fit with the LR Towbar. It only fits with a hayman reese/arb towbar

I only really need a towbar to occasionally tow a box trailer. My main purpose is as a recovery point. Has anyone got any ideas as to alternatives I might have?

I'm a bit annoyed as I've only ever used it once to tow a box trailer about 15k, and I just pulled it off and blasted and re-painted it as it only had a crappy etch on it from new.

using an equalising setup and skoval type sausage slings you can wrap the rear axle near the springs and use that....

    Aux fuel tank

    Hello captain,

Have you considered a sill tank. Opposite Lock sell a sub tank that fits in the right rear quarter panel (behind the wheel) It is gravity fed into the main tank. As I recall it is about 45l, and fills up through the main filler. Seems like a good idea to me, as I don't like to hang anything any lower in my truck. Also the space around the rear wheels seems to be wasted space, that could be used. Maybe balance it with a water tank on the other side.

Tried to get the web link, but it won't work. go to opposite lock, look for fuel/water tanks. land rover TD5 sill tanks. 45l Nice pictures, and descriptions.

    cheers,

    Ken

I was talking to a mate with a defender and he has another type of towbar that doesn't even attach to the chassis rails. It's an old military one. Anyone got any ideas where I might get one of these?

Alternatively, anyone with a arb/hayman reese want to swap a lr towbar for some beer? (getting desperate )

This is the sill tank (disregard the side steps) on my old County - and the towbar.
