I sawa 10/95 HSE go through Albion Auto Auctions early last year, opening bid $10000, final bid $15250 and sold at that. Car could only be described as immaculate, low k's, log books and dealer serviced, 7 seats with mod. plate and very exey lamb's wool seat covers on all. Overheard two dealers comment that that was too much, which I thought also and asked them what they thought was a fair price. I thought say $12000, they thought $8-10000, reason being the model has a bad rep for unreliability & expensive problems and dealers have to give warranty. I said that was probably near $100000 new, and they said yes, luxury cars are worth phuque-all after a few years and a couple of owners, no matter the condition. Reasoning once again? Buyers of ten y.o. cars don't have deep pockets and don't want expensive to maintain oddities.
Same auction sold a 7/87 BMW 318i, not too bad, for $1200, an 88 318i for $1300. A 4/97 Saab 900s sedan, straight as a gun barrel, only needing a wash and chamois off to put it on the lot, went for $3250.

Excellent. This will appreciated on the RR.net P38A forum (by Australians, at least).

As far as the price goes - well, it's not outrageous but armed with the right research and knowledge your mate may be able to negotiate a couple of $K off.
May be worth finding a reputable LR specialist in the area and pay the inspection fee for their opinion...

I thought I bought my '96 HSE cheap enough a few months ago. Today, our used car dept offered $2000 for a '97 HSE with around 350000km on the clock !!
I don't think the owner will part with it that cheaply.
**Edit, it was a 97MY, not 95MY.

Well thanks for the input lads. My mate is no hardcore 4wd'er and wants it for more of the prestige appeal.
Will pass on all your valuable comments.
