Just ordered BFG MT's for the Disco

Sorry to disapoint but the boss has spoken (I should have asked her first) and Ive had to cancel and go back to AT's.

Im a little disapointed but everything she said back to me came from me in the first place and as much as I want the muddies I cant justify it at the moment (specially with people only getting 60,000kms out of them lol).

I have tossed up between MTR's (wear too quick), Coopers (had them on the Jeep and they were crap),General Grabber AT's (may as well just go with what I know and get the BFGs) and the Muddies and AT's.

I would like the stronger sidewalls of the Muddies or MTR's but I can live without them and just not go so hard off road and take the chicken tracks.

Well I might save a bit more and get a difflock or 2 next as planned for a while but thanks to those never ending bills It may take a while.

Try the Nangang Mudstar 235/85/16 for 160ea fitted, that may change her mind;)

That's what i've just put on mine and they are quieter than the Cooper STs i had.

Mate I have the 235/85s on my ser 1. I got hold of some Hankooks, $180 ea fitted so can't go wrong. I've notched up a few thousand km on them and they still look virtually brand new. I used to have BFG ATs fitted and specifically went to these because of their poor performance in the mud. On the other hand they do smoke up pretty well (refer avatar pic!).

I went the whole hog and did the flares but you can get away with losing about 2" back from the bottom rear edge of the guard and take that up about 7", tapering into the original line.

I was catching the guard going up some driveways a little quick before I had the flares put on so be careful of driving without the guards done.

another new style muddie that has good raps across various boards are the Maxxis MT762 Bighorn. Three ply sidewalls, 235/85/16 = 31.7" OD on a 6.5" rim, 15mm tread depth. Possibly fitting these next time around in 255/85/16 to replace the same size BFG's.

Thanks guys, she's made up her mind and I have to agree with her thinking, 120000km's is pretty good mileage so Im gonna give them another go.

I will be getting a set of play tyres later on when I have a spare grand and will look at everything again then.

Where did you get them from, thats a great price for a mt. Have you tried them on wet tarmac yet??

Ive played with the discover st and stc versions of coopers and didnt mind them but I dont think they'd make their advertised 80k

Ahhh yes, the super slipper...great on the road, tops on the sand at 15psi NO warning when the let go on the gravel other than the traction control light coming on to let you know that the ass end is trying to over take the front in case you hadnt worked out that you should now using the passanger side window as the glass of choice to pick your line through this corner and for mud work HAH youd almost be better off with a racing slick.

Thanks Dave I find it about the same with AT's on mine but a bit of sideways fun is ok as long as you have enough track.

As far as the Coopers go, I only had them off road once and the traction control in the Jeep was going nuts trying to get power to the ground in low range up what the landrover thinks is a speed hump, they were only 6 ply and they wore the edges of the tread no matter what pressure you put in them.

A shonky tyre joint told me the rear alighnment was out which is a bit hard with a Dana 44 live axel, I put it down to the LSD being as tight as the proverbial and the TC VC not disengaging when it was meant to.

When that same tyre joint did the alighnment and put 28mm toe in on the front. The 5 miniute drive to another tyre place was like driving a plow through rocks, it had a mind of it's own and I was only game to go about 40kmh.

Hey Aaron, i got them from Blairs Tyres at Peakhurst, they retail for $168ea fitted, but we asked, and well, they gave us a discount:D

If you go the 235/85 you'll have to turn the rear wheel carrier upside down to fit the larger tyre on it.

They are very quiet and seem OK so on road, i have been coming to work and the road has been damp from the dew and they seem to hold the road pretty good, on the gravel they are very good.
