I wonder if they just stuck one in off a tojo or something else that was longer than the Landrover one,thus introducing itself to the gears?????

my thoughts to, i reckon they drilled the hole and re-threaded it to fit a larger diameter plug, which as you suggest was longer internally so hit the gear sets.Quote:

Get a new Mechanic, I wouldnt take a wheel barrow to that bloke.
It could have had an elecy lift pump fitted at some stage as I thought of it when my mechy pump died but just went to another mechy one.

Take it to LRA, if you have enough money to fix all the oil leaks on a Land rover 300tdi for that matter then Les Richmond Automotive is for you, they are a little pricey but not unreasonably and they are very good at what they do.

Well, like some others who read this, I can only tip my hat to you.
I have found when worrying about oil leaks on a Tdi going to the source is not the best ($ or time) way to deal with the problems. Treat the symptoms. You need an additive and the following have worked for me:
single malt, champagne, Guinness, Tanqueray, Coopers Sparkling.
Some have used hypnotism and patches for Landy leaks with varying degrees of success.
Failing that, there is the live chicken sacrifice method :DQuote:
