Hmmm might have to talk to the local mechanic he does mud racing with a blown 350 and auto, will have to see if I can brib him into working on the landy.
Im happy to work on any other part of a landy but just a bit shy about playing with an auto

Have a look at the Ashcroft UK site .
You will see that if it is first change of the morning, then the problem is the governor .
Common problem and indicative of a Transmission getting old.

I'd still be tempted to change the fluid first. That way you can see the condition of the old fluid, may give you an indication of what is going on.
flush the box and cooler, change the oil and the internal filter for starters.
If nothings been hurt or clogged inside of it this should sort it out, IF not its a good starting point.
Im still working on getting the ADF to get the auto books, my new boss has signed the justification.
The transmission is only about 6000k old I swapped it for one from Ritters last time I went down to SA - I buggered it on the way so my holiday entailed swapping boxes and driving home. It isn't out of a landrover but a hot shot BMW V8 - which Ritters said was same or stronger I think from memory but I have strong level of KRAFT now a days so not sure.
Ok so how do I clean / replace the filter while I am changing the oil in her??
Don't know if it's going to be the same, but on a standard LR you drain the fluid, remove the sump off the box, then remove and replace the fiter - it's a big flat metal filter.
These can be bought from british4wd - who are members on this forum
Have a peek at
http://www.british4wd.com/xcart/prod...cat=360&page=1
They are $66.00 plus postage.
I'll try and find the page off of RAVE CD and post it here
(you ought to get a RAVE CD - Dave who runs the site sell them and it helps to support these forums) they are quite inexpensive ($16 - $17 or thereabouts)
Hey Ladas thanks for that, externally the boxes looked identical, from my vague memory he said the bearings and some other bits were stronger - basically a more expensive box but he took pity on my stuffed holiday and sold it to me at the same price. It was substancially more if I remember correctly.
