engine turns off and hazard lights turn on

    Hi

    after some help or advice

I have just bought an 04 td5 discovery and the other day I got on a very bumpy road, the engine light came on and it stalled, started again fine and off I went, it did this a couple more times so I took it to my local dealer who after some diagnosis changed the crank angle sensor. On the way home we hit a bump again and the disco turned off and imediately turned it's harard lights on. It would not start and the hazard lights would not turn off. After 50min it started fine but still hazard lights. roadside assistance fiddled with indicators and hazard switch eventually hazards turned off and I was away carefully dodging bumps. Its going back to the dealer but any suggestion???

This may not be much help but on the D1, if I hit a really, really hard bump the hazard lights come on and stay on. This apparently is a precursor warning to the SRS airbags going off .... ie like "if you hit any harder I'm warning you the airbag is gonna blow"
It's happened to me once only, and the only way to get the hazrds off is to turn the ignition off and on.
Just wondering therefore if your issue, although not exactly the same, is possibly tied up with the airbag system ?

Could be a fault in the inertia/imobilisation switch under the bonnet.

I agree I'd bet $10 is a bad earth on the imobiliser inertia switch

    Nothing to do with SRS...

The inertia switch is playing up...

Mine did this occasionally... Quick Fix... 1 whopping great cable tie to lock the switch down!

at the top of the fire wall towards the center of the engine bay, its a little(25mm?) round black rubber thingy , looks alot like a button.
just make sure its not loose also.

does fiddling with the inertia switch affect insurance, after all this is a safety feature to cut the engine in the event of an accident. Matt
