RRC gearbox LT95 what's the hose tap for?

half way through removing the gearbox and I notice this tap with what looks like a fitting for a hose pipe to connect to.

Does anyone know what it for?

There are 3 hoses going to the LT95.
    2 breathers (gearbox and transfer)
The other is for the diff lock selector.

What size hose are you talking about?
All 3 hoses are about 4mm.

I don't know why they would have a tap.
    Maybe prevent water ingress.
Maybe faulty diff lock selector, and the tap replaces it.

    Hi
    this is the "tap".
It's on the left side as you face forward in the vehicle.

oops nearly forgot the tap end is about 4-5mm

Isn't that the filler plug it is tapped into ? If so, I agree it could be a bypass hose to the transfer case because the intermediate seal between the gearbox and the transfer case is stuffed and oil is pumping one way and overfilling one of the two.

As another option, someone may have had a hose on it to make it easier to fill the gearbox as it's not the easiest filler to get to.

I have never heard of using a bypass hose?

If it was a bypass hose wouldn't the other filler have a connection too?

Also when I emtied the oil the TC has was water contaminated but the box wasn't if it was used to transfer oil from case to case wouldn't they both be contaminated?

    HangOver.
I think that was a trick question to see if you were paying attention.

    Then again, maybe not.

I agree with your reasoning on the bypass. Perhaps just a filler then. ???

It's definatley the filler point for the gearbox.

    Here's my guess:

It's used to "power fill" the gearbox.
ie, using some sort of pump to fill, and this is the tap to shut it off when the correct amount is reached.
Seems a bit over top for me, but like the simple things

I use a hand pump with a hose, and when it's full, oil flows out the filler hole.
