When I bought my IIA it had 1 old-type selectro (as above) and one new-type selectro. The new type was a retrograde step - fiddly and needed a 3/4 turn, rather than a 1/4 turn. Didn't leak as easily though. I never had one unlock itself, but a mate with 7.50s on stock rims did.

I have the selectro hubs on my S111, its still under renovation so I dont know about the reliability. I did find this installation diagram which may help in servicing them.

The Castleated nut on the early vehicles are HEX, on the late are ROUND, the Hex is 1inch SAE, the round needs a special tool:( you can make one, using 1/8 flat steel, cut a pattern from cardboard, and take to a friend or local engineering shop and get them to make it up, add an extra thickness to the top end for grip, then undo using a shifter,

The Hex nut has a flat washer behind it and a serated felt seal between the axle and tube, about $1.50ea, These are 10 spline axles.

The Round nut has a spacer washer, then a special spring, then a rubber "O" ring . These are 24 spline axles

All of the Freewheel Hubs have an oil-paper gasket 1/16 between the hub and the bearing hub;)

Designosaur - thanks very much for the installation guide. Unfortunately those don't look the same as the Selectros on my GS - mine have a large knurled (kind of) wheel as the engage/disengage lever. See the photo in my previous post. Still useful info though.

UncleHo - Thank you for that info. Maybe the rubber O ring under my round castellated nut has perished? Any ideas on where I can get parts for the Selectros?
