Disco vs Defender alternator for 300TDi

A UK site has a 100A alternator for a Disco 300TDi very cheap (And I have a family member coming back from the UK at the end of this week too!) but they say it won't fit a Defender, and only list the standard 65A one for that. On another thread I found mention to pulleys possibly being different, which doesn't sound like a big deal, but is that likely to be the only difference or can anyone think of other reasons it won't fit?

Also, on the off chance it doesn't have the take-off for the tacho, how much of an issue is getting that put in?

i fitted one to my 90, was a magnetti marrnelli (not sure of spelling) got it from uk e bay. be carefull on how the lugs are located as they are handed. the pully was easy enough to change, the hardest bit for me was working out the wires as i had to cut the plug off and crimp on spade connectors.

I had an idea that it was the 200tdis that had hi-mount & low mount alternators for discos & defenders, & power/torque was slightly different. Come the 300tdis, I thought they were identical between defender & disco.

    Been wrong before though.

Thanks - for an extra £12 that's worth it if they confirm it's a straight swap.

Well in my mind the postage saves alot of hassle. With stuff going on these days could have fun taking an alternator on a plane
I have asked him already how much to post to Aus. waiting for a reply

You'd be amazed what I get on a plane, as long as it's in checked luggage! Last time I came back, it was a full service kit for the Defender plus a load of electrical and computer stuff...they didn't even open the case!

An empty gun case from the US caused more problems, cos everyone panicked it wasn't locked or declared until they found it was empty!!

Got the reply - £76 postage. I think not!

Probably now also missed getting it to the mother-in-law's for my sister-in-law to bring back too. We shall see...otherwise, it can sit and wait a while.
