Brown is the live wire from the battery, red/white is the cranking/start wire. 1 white is ingition on posn II, the other - I think is ignition I (aux)

You won't or shouldn't find an earth wire on the ignition switch.

Just connect the earth to a suitable earth connection on the body/chassis/engine

PS buy yourself a tester - they are cheap enough

Cheap Digital Multimeters are only about $10-20 from Bunnings, Supercheap or Dick Smith. They can measure most things you will need ie amps, volts, ohms. Well worthwile investment I always have one in the car.

Bloody priceless when you are dealing with lucas stuff

Funny thing is, its the one area (apart from chemistry) I've never been able to wrap my head around. I work in a technical area, I've no problem with most areas fo physics, hydraulics or anything else, but for some reason basic electronics just wont sink in.
Even odder, my father is an excellent 'old school' (ie, doesnt just replace things, but actually fixes them) electronic technician.
But for some reason, it just wont sink in.. its very frustrating.

if you understand hydraulics you DO understand electronics...

non-return valves = diodes
pressure reducers = resistors
hose = wire
Filter = transformer
tank = capacitor/battery (depending on use)

it's all simple

hi fella,s thanks for your help,I,ve just fitted the low water sensor,and it works ok.......I may invest in a electrical gauge to check the electrical system,I did have one in my tool box,but when I went to use it ,it would,nt work...so I,ll have to buy a new one,......thank again
