Low water alarm TD5 Defender

Yep

It's got me buggered. The only place I can see is the inclined section just out from the radiator end. But the destructions say the probe should be vertical, which means the unit must be horizontal. Nowhere for it to go ??

Perhaps we'd be better off with the probe type ??

Anyone spoken to Dave yet ??

Thats the one I have.

I just got off the phone to David.....
He's revised his destructions, but some of the pre-packaged units still have the old ones.

The probe should be vertical in one plane, but may be inclined in the other, i.e. it may be installed on an inclined section of hose but must point to the ground (not installed so the probe is horizontal)

From what I can see, the only spot is the first inclined section out from the radiator (before the bleed point).

He's not familiar with TD5 fenders but did say one of his agents has installed them in a few.

Any other suggestions??

I installed mine on my TD5 Disco in the inclined hose just out from the radiator as discussed above.

Great news.
I didn't want to cut a brand new hose just to find that I had stuffed it up.
So now I can carry out the fun task of changing all my heater/radiator hoses.

Did you remove the hose, or install insitu. There seems to be a heap of branch lines, which would make it a PITA to remove if it's not necessary.

I got out the old kitchen knife, crossed my fingers and cut 17mm out of the hose. The earth wire runs to the radiator support panel and there is enough length in the signal wire to run it along the return hose, past the battery and through the grommet behind the fuse panel.

How much coolant (if any) did you lose/drain first. I thought I'd syphon out the overflow bottle and out of the bleed if possible, then try to catch any when cutting the hose.

I lost maybe a cupful of coolant, left the cap on the reservoir and fitted the sensor. Started it up and opened the bleeder to let out air a couple of times over 5 minutes, took it for a run and got it warm and bled again with no air coming out.
I just topped up the coolant tank with some demineralised water.
