    Hi All,

Just want some tips, pitfalls etc on putting a 300 tdi in an 89-ish rangie.

    Cheers,

We just did it, and it was an easy and good result to just buy a rolled disco, and plonk the RR body on top. The chassis etc is virtually the same, and you get fine spline diffs and anti-roll bars with 4 bolt power steering and good brakes etc etc etc.

When we went to engineer it they were happy to see a RR go from a V8 'down' to a diesel, and rego was cheaper too.

The one we did was a 1998 Tdi auto SE chassis etc under a 1985 Manual Vogue.

The pedal box had to be changed over from the disco to the RR's bulkhead, and required minor surgery to do this. We did a 1" body lift as well, and the result was excellent.

Done it with a 200 Tdi into a 71 rangie
I used the engine and gearbox out of a disco. Had to cut the bulkhead a bit (engine side) to get the rocker cover in as the 200 TDi sat further back in the bay. But should not have that problem with the 300 as the sit more forward than the 200
Would be easer to just fit engine and gear box in one hit

As for pitfalls. None in my mind apart from the fact you won't get the money you spent on it back when you come to sell it ,but if you know about that and are going to keep it , then no worries.
Will give a new lease of life to the car and drive lovely with the 300 TDi The Range Rover classic was aviable in the uk with the 200 and 300 TDi in them from the factory . So can be done and there is on the shelf parts for them anyway. Plus a workshop manual as well.

This is my 1971 200 Tdi rangie

The 300 TDi in the Rangie is a great combination. I bought a rolled 1995 Disco 300TDi with 5-speed gbox and plonked it in a 1990 Rangie. I only needed to add new engine mounts - gbox mount locations were the same. No other rangie body mods were req'd. Best to get a rolled Disco as there are a few bits and pieces that you might need.

    [OT - giday Justin]

Going well, Justin. I've pretty much given up on the 'stump - no traffic at all these days. Funnily enough, I think there is so much traffic on this site that sometimes posts get swamped by other new posts and therefore not always answered either (I've had a few examples of this in the past few months - eg. asking for Melbourne biodiesel suppliers a while back, and also a couple of Q's I put into a EGT thread - not serious, just surprising the lack of responses from such a busy site!)

Actually I was going to contact you re fuelling up my new 300TDi Disco sometime soon. I haven't got an EGT in yet, but hope to have in the next few months (after we settle into our new place in Melbourne).

    Catch you soon,
