I tell you what the TD5s with no mufflers wat so ever sound horn :cool:
I have a 3.9V8 no cats, and only a small hiflow muffler in the rear third of the 2.5" straight through system... and personally its not as horn as the sound of a demuffled TD5 :twisted:
just got back from the exhaust shop, can't believe the difference from loosing the muff. accelerates quicker and sounds fantastic:):):):)
I'm finding it strange that you are all reporting more noise with the muffler gone, because mine hardly changed at all (certainly from the inside). The turbo whistle is much clearer, but exhaust volume only slightly louder.
Did you get rid of the final 'pod' muffler after the rear axle as well?
no the final pod is still there but mines a 90 not a 110 so my exhaust is shorter. sounds louder on accelleration but not when cruising
I removed both my muffler and resonator I believe they call it, and there was a noticable difference in noise with my D2 TD5. Actually looking to fit something back to take the noise down slightly.Quote:

Must be the length that makes the difference. Never thought of that. Thanks for clearing that up.
I don't know. In mine the main diff in the noise was more of a resonance up to about 2k. After that I don't think I could pick a difference.
I'm used to it now.
so who has removed the cat from the front of there TD5 Defender?
If so worth doing also?

Cat?? Theres no cat on mine, just a muffler and resonator. I didnt think they had cats on them being diesel.
