I used ironman 'Nissan' springs for the defender 130 rear, softer and available much taller, but in exactly the same diametre. In the front i used RR rear spec'd ones. Result= perfect height and ride for my needs:angel:

Not that I would get them I had tough dogs on my Nissan after the first outing they squeaks forever more

and the rangie came with 2"lifted EFS shocks and I fitted lovels coils.

I can supply a heap of detail WRT 4wd1 and Ranchos OFFLINE.

I eventually went tough dog coils (which are a little too stiff), Billstiens on the front and Billsteins (130 Version) on the rear. Its stiff, potentially too stiff but at least it 50mm raised and got great damping.

Some of you might be interested to hear about how our suspension has fared, once we fitted some new Bilstein when leaving Sydney last May to cross the country and tour the Kimberley and Northern Territory for 6 months. Well, after 20 000 K, I started getting car sickeness...

To be fair, we drove more often on tracks than roads, some of which being notoriously corrugated, such as the Tanami, Larapinta and Namadjira tracks, the Finke River Gorge or Mitchell Plateau areas, not to mention the Gibb River Road where several fellow travellers had their shocks die on them. And are indeed pretty heavy, with our load of 3.2 tons, which is why we have 130 coils.

So all in all, Robert thinks the Bilstein did their job and gave in after an acceptable mileage. But what a relief when we finally reached Brisbane, where our sponsor Carrols Springs was to check our suspension!

We left Wacol with 4 new EFS shocks and kept the Bilstein as a spare. We'll think about rebuilding them later... Even before reaching Ipswitch, the smile had returned on my face. No more car sickness! We will let you know 20 000 k down the road how they fare in the distance, but so far so good on the tracks where we tested them. So were just curious to know how yours so far.
