I have done dozens of these pump upgrades all with great results ( I put in the original how to get 25bhp more on the original LRO uk site with 2500 views....Pm me with what you did ....sounds like you got the turbo boost and fuel/spring adjustment wrong....
and home would be where?
Yeah, your post on the UK forum was the first one I read on the subject after I bought the car and started looking at what could be done on a mechanical diesel! Was pointed to it by my mates back in the UK before I found this place. :)
The fact that most people reckon the mods are worth 20-30bhp, and that's withouht bigger intercoolers and the like is why I'm so miffed the dyno showed less than a 5kw increase at max power, and not much better in the way of torque increase. (Though it also showed the same increase at the low end, which was 20% and is obviously why the car drives so much better off boost)
Anyway, I didn't do anything, 'cos I didn't fancy playing with it! The fuel injection place basically did the mods on the pump while the car was on the dyno between runs....and chatting to the dyno tech, he was talking about the exact same tweaks as your post, plus getting the turbo up to it's full boost which is was a bit short of. They did another Defender yesterday which got much better results too, and have done the pump mods a few times in other vehicles...this was the first one they'd had where there was very little improvement in the full boost power. Typical that it had to be mine! :(
The off-boost mod worked though, as I said, as there is a noticeable difference driving the car from stationary and when on a light throttle.
jeff....I suggest you dont touch it yourself until I send you the details of what and how to check it ...if you are near NOOSA I can have a look at it for you.....from what you are saying you have been fed a load of bull**** by the people who did it...
I wait to hear from you
Welcome to AULRO pistnbroke/Jon.
that old thread of yours on the old LRE forum started a lot of us on the pump tweaking path. Thankyou.
Your original thread still exists on the Landroveraddict site, as the boys there saved the LRE archives, but unfortunately all the piccies were lost.
jik22, there is a very good write up by Ian Petersen/Leo109 of Thermoguard pyro fame on this site detailing all the mods, with pictures. A few of us were around when pistnbroke posted his original thread, which prompted Ian to develop his pyro, and as a consequence he distilled the original thread into a very good article. http://www.aulro.com/afvb/attachment...6&d=1152411367
You really do need a pyro to get the full benefit. I had to back settings off originally as things were a little too far over the edge.
Hey Jeff,
That was my old defender they the other day...i went to the trouble of match porting the head to manifolds etc it went well and now its got the gas injection on so it goes hard now!
one thing they did say...they tyres i had on sucked a lot of power also...

Cheers Stuart....the Dyno guy didn't mention the gas, and as he was desperately trying to think of why mine didn't go better, I'm sure he would have if he thought that was the only reason he got a better result! One of the other guys there was also lost as they have set practises for what they do to these pumps apparantly, and mine just wasn't responding. Turned out to be the start of a crap day yesterday, as I feared! :(
