I guess the other option is to pull the plug on the EGR system. Its a cheaper way to do it and it still works.

Blanking of the EGR is what we do in the uk . It makes 300 Tdi disco's go really well. In fact going to do it to my new one if it has not already been done. Will not effect the emissions as in the Uk they really test the emissions every year. (so can't see why it is illegal here to do it)
Even more so when the amout of old holdens and ford running around smelling like they are useing more oil than petrol :)

cant feel any differance in my chipped TD5, the egt's havent moved. but it has got rid of the annoying hunting the engine usta get pulling up at traffic lights! not that crumpet has any of them within 600klm's:D

its there as an emission control system..
providing its working it does nothing to hurt your economy as it should only come into play when your off the loud pedal.
that said once they start leaking and clogging when it does what is anyones guess
removing them is against the rule book but its not like 90% of the gits who do roadworths would know what the hell one is in the first place.
This came up a while ago, a search would find it.
Have aearch on the Rover board on Outer Limits too. There was a big discussion about this a year ot two ago. Basically said don't do it.
I couldn't detect any real difference, I've reconnected mine.
