On my machines at work I use Wynns grease, I have used just about everything other than the Moreys but would like to try it.

Normally I have had to do the bearings in the rollers on the Cylinder mowers 2 or 3 times a year but I found at one of my courses when I was on site, they used Wynns and I never had a failed roller in 5 years.

They would only fail if the seal, wear sleeve or O ring wore out and you dont have to pump heaps in.

I havnt looked to see what type of grease it is just get more from the rep when I run out.

I generally dont like Wynns stuff but the their grease is a great alrounder.

Little story
A friend owns a bearing company and where selling about 20-40 bearings a month to a mining company for a conveyer belt. He then told them to use Moreys, since then they now buy 2 to 4 a month.

Hmmm, any lithium/lithium complex base will eventually wash out with water. You need a Calcium Sulphonate thickener to resist water washout and rust. The best marine greases use a Calcium Sulphonate thickener for this reason, as does CAT with their range of 5% moly heavy machinery greases.

Also, there is no 'exceeds Timken test', only a Timken OK load in lb/kg, e.g. my 'normal' wheel bearing grease (Neo's cheapest grease, Z12 synthetic lithium complex) has a Timken OK load of 34+kg/75+lb and Caltex's excellent Delo EP2 truck wheel bearing grease also has an 34kg/75lb Timken OK load. (and a 4 ball weld load of 500kg !).

I'll try and post a grease compatibility chart, if I can work out how to convert HTML to UBB.

Ohhhhh, my head hurts now

While we are talking grease application, how do I get to the grease nipples in my universal joint in the drive shaft? The space around the nipple is too small for any grease gun head I have, or can find on the market. I purchased a pointy attachment but that doesn't get any grease into the joint.

The standard fitting should be fine. It's better to grease on cold days, the grease nipples stick out a bit more and make it easier to get a purchase.
