Twin condenser fans running constantly when ignition on

The 2 condenser fans (in front of the radiator) on my V8 D1 are running constantly when the ignition is on (A/C off). I noticed the fans running constantly while driving on the Crooked River track after doing 30+ river crossings on a trip over the long weekend at Eaglevale. I disconnected the coolant temp sensor that is supposed to switch the fans on when the coolant temp is high and the fans turned off. I cleaned up the connector and the fans still run when its plugged in even when reversed. Also the fans switch on normaly with the A/C when the temp sensor is unplugged too. And the fans don't run unless the ignition is on.

Any ideas what the problem is? Faulty sensor?

Do you have a multimeter ?? Turn it to ohms and you can test the sensor.

... someone with RAVE CD will advise what the resistance readings sholud be for normal and high temps ( hopefully )

If it was a sticking relay it wouldn't run normally when disconnected from the sensor.

Just put a meter on the sensor (resistance) when the engine is cold - it should be open circuit................if not.................

My guess the sensor has failed..........and it acts as a built in safety device - make on fail - so in the case of failure you are still protecting the engine by running the fans whatever the circustances (hot cold)

In case you wern't aware ,there are 2 coolant sensors, one for the ECU for engine management and one for the condensor fans. I think from memory the condensor one is the big one on the thermostat housing.
