rubber grease & petrolium jelly, same stuff?

    Hi all
am I correct in thinking that rubber grease for oil seals etc is more or less the same stuff as petrolium jelly?

"The Book" suggests I use rubber grease for seals I just want to know.

its more or less the same grease in the way that sulphuric acid is the same as citric acid...

Dont use petroleum jelly on any seal that has rubber grease pescified. Dont use it on rubber seals or brake parts.

if you are working on brakes.......lube everything with rubber grease or brakefluid only........

if you want to lube seals on the auto trans.......then vaselline is great for this.......

for any seals holding in gear or engine oil.......i use either rubber grease....or normal HTB grease......

Just to reinforce those who stayed up late - NO

Petroleum jelly is, like ordinary grease, is made up mainly or entirely of hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons of any sort will destroy natural rubber (usually used in brake components). If it says use rubber grease - do not use anything that contains hydrocarbons. In fact, make sure your hands do not have traces of grease or oil on them when handling the parts, either the rubber components or anything in contact with them or the fluid (brake fluid) they work with.
