Thread: Bleeding county clutch

Firstly is the fluid new or has it been sitting about for a while.

If you have done the slave and the fork / rod etc., then the only things left are the lines themselves and the master cylinder.

With many clutches I have done in the past, on my own, I have actually carried it out by gravity bleeding, takes a bit longer, but it's always worked for me.

yep....do that....gravity bleed......


when you press the clutch pedal and release the fluid........the master cylinder rubbers can stay pressed.......
as there is no pressure to push them back.......except for maybe a weak spring........it takes time......

just pump the pedal till you actually start to get some pedal.........then just open the bleed nipple and let the fluid flow through.........
keep an eye on the master cylinder so as it doesnt run dry.........


if you are still getting bubbles......then you have a problem somewhere.......
when you have the clutch working........press and hold the pedal down........and hold....and keep holding till your leg gives........
then go nad check for a leak at all the fittings and connections.......and the master and slave cylinder........

its possible to split the ends of the pipes if they are over tightened......and this will suck in air whilst you are bleeding.......

You might also want to check the float in the peedal which you can adjust on the threaded rod end in the engine bay. I also blead the pipe ferral where it leaves the top of the master cylinder before doing the slave cylinder.

Do as Capelandy suggests. Other suggestions include lifting the front of the vehicle and reverse bleeding (which is what I did last time).

If you have used 2 litres of clutch fluid then probably find the slave cylinder has popped out in the bell housing. undo the drain in the bellhousing to see if any leaks out.
