Sounds like your disc rotors are warped.
To get rid of vibe requires either machining or rotor replacement.
Ok since this thread http://www.aulro.com/afvb/showthread.php't=39217
Talked to a few guys about what is going wrong with my breaks ..
When going down hills (big ones, long ones) half way down it starts to shudder like I am going over 10001 little corrugations..
When I get to the bottom and they cool down, they are fine again ..
Brake guys suspect I have the wrong pads... any one else got any thoughts ?

Squealing, yes.
Vibration, no.
ABS maybe?????
Why not change the pads first, then if the problem persists, machine the rotors or replace.
But check how much meat is left on the pads, it's easy to do, wouldn't want to toss out a set of OK pads.

I would have thought warped rotors would have shuddered regardless of temperature. Pads can get soft and sticky when really hot, and will jerk as described. If they are dodgy rotors and heat up they can twist in the heat, but usually stay that way.... Id say change the pads (perhaps high mileage ones, more metal less soft stuff), then get some new rotors if things persist. Either way id say its from things getting way too hot.
cheers,
Colin.

Do you change down a cog for those downhill runs & assist the brakes with a bit of engine braking?
Just a thought.![]()
Maybe you could try pulling the fuse to the abs and see if it will do it. Make sure its some where safe with plenty of run off.
Yes it could be pads, as when they head up they can produce hot spots that hold heat more than other sections of the pad.
I know there are going to be people who say bullsh!t but I had this problem with an AU falcon and took 2 years to sort.
You cant see it as as the pad cools and you drive home it wears the fine black marks off the pad and when you remove them they look fine.
EMS brakes that used to be in Bayswater sorted it out and instead of puting up with the vibration I had to put up with gaunch which is a noise like you have no pads at all when they are hot.
Harder pads are likely to fix it BUT you will lose braking performance when they are cold and only get to premium operating temp when working hard.
They also can wear your discs out faster if they arnt matched to the disc rotor material, this was also a compromise with the AU.
I would deffinatly check the disc runout but I would suspect that if it isnt doing it on every brake aplication then it wont be warped disc rotors.
I also doubt it is the ABS but it is an easy check by pulling the fuse and worth doing.
I do suggest that if your not already, you start using your lower gears on long decents more than your brakes as this will save you from over heating them and getting fade when you actually need them.
