From my experience:
1. Driving style: easy start, change gears earlie, <90km/h on highway I think that I'm easy on the starting with the auto changing gears around 2500, highway I need to slow down a bit
2. Air filter: are you sure it is clean and been replaced at last service? [Bit appears clean with a similar colour on both sides[/B]
3. Bad quality diesel: change your favorite service stations/brand worth a change and some of the other posts seem to indicate a trial of the BP diesel
4. Might be worse to try something like flash lube diesel conditioner to clean injectors (3-5 tanks to get result) I've been using the Chemtech? conditioner for the couple of months and am onto the 3rd tank with the FlashLube product
5. Increase tyre pressure up to 40psi Will try increasing pressures, currently they have been running at 36psi
6. Check for fuel leaks no obvious road markings under the vehicle where it has been parked regularly
7. Does your vehicle rolls OK downhills?this may be a clue, the tacho rarely sits below 2000 except for some brief moments cruising down hill at 60
