Interesting, I did not know this.
First the Disclaimer: With information gleaned from Rave and Rovacom technical data, this is what I did to my D2 and I found it to work to my satisfaction. It may or may not work the same on other D2s.
The body computer (BCU) has a transit mode for delivery from the factory to stop the battery going flat before sale. During pre delivery the BCU is put to normal by simultaneously pressing two switches and ignition on.
I put the BCU into transit mode (using Rovacomlite) to overcome some of the "what ifs" with the alarm system.
"What ifs"...Parking under powerlines
Parking outside a shop that is using a radio linked barcode scanner
Parking a D2 in electrically "noisy" areas
Remote fob malfunction or flat battery
Having to go through the emergency key access (EKA) proceedure without a stuffup.
Some of the above may not apply to late D2s as the alarm frequency was changed.
This is how my D2 alarm system now operates.
Locking the car with the key in the door "OR" the remote I can
:Superlock the doors
:Immobilize the engine
:Set the alarm
Unlocking the car with the key in the door "OR" the remote I can
:Unlock the door (or doors)
:Re mobilize the engine
:Turn off the alarm
:Start the car with an ordinary key
Note: This is quite different to "normal" settings.
In normal,if the system has a stuffup, one can unlock the door with the key. But, the engine has to be re-mobilized with the EKA (lotsa luck)
Spare keys (without the remote thingy) can be cut at the locksmiths for about $10 each. Battery drain is minimal when parked for long periods.
Now, the disadvantages in transit mode...........................
:The internal ultrasonic alarm (if fitted) is permanently disabled.
:PASSIVE engine immobilization is partially disabled. (Passive immobilizer operates 30 seconds after the engine is stopped. Normal immobilizer still works with key or remote)
:Electric seats (if fitted) are NOT enabled when drivers door opened
: An ordinary correctly cut key can can access and steal my car. But.....If my "you beaut" Landrover key is lost or stolen, my car's gone too.
: Interior lights only remain on for 15 seconds in auto

this is an interesting issue, as, depending on where you live, the risks of having your electronic key stuff up on you in the middle of nowhere, and the costs of replacing these keys would far outweigh the remote risk of having your car stolen.
Fortunately I managed to find a locksmith who would actually cut my D2 key (it's the same blank as a D1 key), but my emergency key access procedure hasn't worked, and the Canberra dealer and LRAssist haven't been particularly helpful in resolving this.
I assume if I go to a decent LR dealer, they can sort it for me, and presumably disable all key-linked electronics if required? Simplicity out bush is the ultimate reliability, so the fewer electronics the better...
if you were after simplicity,,
why would you buy a D2?
we have had a few "blackouts" due to positioning,, something you only find out afterwoods, and this only occurs in built up areas,,,with a movement of 10 metres usually enough to get over it. Its wrong, its bad tech, its just there. I doubt it would be a problem in Birdsville,
a flat key fob is just plain bad maintenance,, $5.
the EKA is there for a reason,, see above.
Its a great post dirtdigger,, I hope it works for you.![]()

I considered this, or to have passive immobilisation disabled, prior to my recent trip as a permanent setup. However my local dealer said they had to send "the ecu" away to be reprogrammed after having made an appointment to have it done. (Last I knew they had a T4 unit). Needless to say, I didn't get it done. But I'd still like to have passive immobilisation disabled.

A system that can do more than just read codes of the body computer (BCU) on the D2 should be capable of putting the BCU into transit mode. It takes no more than 10 minutes.
If you can get the BCU put into transit mode, you can then try it out and see if your vehicle operation is to your satisfaction.....................If you don't like the results, simply change it back yourself.
To remove from "transit mode" the easy way......
Simultaneously hold down the heated rear window, and rear fog lamp switches, and turn the ignition switch from position 0 to position III for 2 seconds.
The BCU is now back in normal mode.
Note: This information is for D2 ONLY.
: Transit mode can be removed by the above method, or by accessing the BCU.
: Transit mode can ONLY be set by accessing the BCU.
Someone has seen the light!!!! No electronics means no sudden, catastrophic, undiagnosible, unrepairable roadside breakdowns. Also means you are not going to die roadside in a remote area from heat, thirst, starvation. There is no place in remote outback Australia for vehicles that are disabled by the failure of a two cent electronic component. Buy County-Isuzus whilst they are still available if you wish to travel safely in remote outback areas.

Stuff transit mode, I'm sure tombraider would agree with me it would be much more interesting to find out what happens if you put your D2 into Police or Gulf mode
To quote Blackbox-Solutions:
Police: This setting is used to configure the instrument pack for Police force vehicles. It's operation on non Police specification instrument packs is unknown.
Gulf: This setting is used to configure the instrument pack for Gulf operation. It's operation on non Gulf specification instrument packs is unknown.
