    RRC Steering box seal

Mine has finally let go big time. Fluid can be seen running from the pitman arm nut when you turn the wheel from side to side. My question is can the seals be replaced in situ without removing the shaft etc?

If it leaks when turned side to side, the odds are that the lower bearing is stuffed.
This is a babbit bearing which needs to be reamed to size with a parallel ream.
If you put only a new seal in , it may last a while but a new bearing is the answer.
It is a box out job, but well in the realm of a DIY, if you can find an engineer with the appropriate parallel ream. I did it with a brake cylinder hone but it took six hours of honing.

Mine's leaking profusely, too.... aand the time has come to fix it, lower seals being the prob (etc)

(Had a look at that site Ron, thanks!)

I've got a kit and a few other goodies on the way from FWDs in Melbourne.
