Buyer snaps up Motorway Tyres
A Melbourne-based company has bought the failed Stawell business Motorway Tyres after three months in voluntary administration.
Ramonte bought the business yesterday for an undisclosed amount.
It says the the business will continue to operate under the name of Motorway.
The chief executive of the surrounding Northern Grampians Shire, Gina Lyons, says Motorway is one of Stawell's biggest employers and the sale is a relief.
"My understanding is that they will continue with the current staff, there are plans to expand the business, so they're very much looking at growth which will, of course, mean more staff. As to the unsecured creditors I couldn't really comment on that side of things," she said.

Major expansion plans have been released by Motorway Tyres which will result in the creation of new jobs at the Stawell plant.
Motorway's General Manager Malcolm Hurst confirmed the expansion yesterday and said potentially, the company could be employing up to 200 personnel by Christmas next year. At present, Motorway has an employment base of around 70.
Stage one of the plan has already been implemented, with the commissioning of new equipment that has been brought down from Sydney.
Mr Hurst said the company was about to move into stage two of the expansion, which would involve the construction of new factories at the Western Highway site.
"We are putting stage two into the planning stage now and this will result in the building of new factories at the site," he said.
The new development will also coincide with the world first launch of the company's innovative new product SmokinJoe at the end of the year.
SmokinJoe is a range of burn out tyres that emit coloured smoke.
Mr Hurst said the launch alone would result in the creation of new jobs at Motorway.
"We are already advertising for four more people to join the company and I expect our numbers to increase to about 100 by this Christmas," Mr Hurst said.
"The company will continue to expand and by the end of next year, numbers could increase to around 200."
Mr Hurst said this would involve sales staff, as well as employees at the factories in Stawell.
He said the Motorway sales team had been relocated to Melbourne and this had fit in well with the company's expansion program.
"All of our customers are in Melbourne, so it makes good sense for our sales team to be based there too," he said.
"It not only assists our operation, it makes sense from a convenience point of view as well."
Motorway Tyres, established in Stawell in 1934, was sold in October last year to Melbourne-based company Ramonte Pty Ltd.
Ramonte showed a strong interest in expanding its involvement in rubber and looked at the fact that Motorway had a high quality product and a strong reputation. Mr Hurst said the company had operated well in the past 12 months and it was exciting to be able to put expansion plans in place. "It is certainly good news for Motorway Tyres and good news for the Stawell community," he said.
