Probably did at factory but after the warranty runs out the Airbags stop working :)

It does satisfy me, especially now that it is winter - how warm are the heaters!!!

All I need is the gearbox problem sorted, the Cruise control working (see other threads), a new dash and for it TO BE ON GAS!!!

You've got me thinking about the air bags now, Different countries have different speeds for the bags to deploy. US is a lot lower than Oz,(because they don't have to wear seat belts) since the Disco was designed with the States in mind, I wonder?????
Hand book also says air bags should be replaced in some countries every 5 years to avoid warranty issues.

I Gotta say, I'm not real wrapped with the design of the ARB winch bar on my Disco. It really kills the approach angle. Kinda get the feeling the designer didn't think it would go off road. Might explain how Chosen was able to bend it so easily.

True that! It does limit your approach angle but so does the rear bumper (um, departure angle that is).

Although I don't know much about Airbags, I know a fair bit about metal fabrication (I run a metal fabrication business in SA) - it is hard to see the point in making a winch bar for an Airbag fitted vehicle if this is how you gotta do it. Defeats the purpose a little. I will complete my own tests on it over time and try to report it to the world of AULRO if people are interested.

That is if I can fix the Gearbox problem and get back on the road :p.

You mentioned abs but not airbags? its the airbag bars that are mounted using crush cans abs doesnt affect a bars mounting. My mate has an ARB airbag bar on his and the winch is mounted upside down on a cradle set back from the bar bolted to the chassis.

I'll find pics... But nope.. TJM use alloy crush cans, ARB use steel and mount direct to the bar.

With ARB bars the winch mounts to the bar, at least for Rangies. The TJM winch mounting is far superior as the winch sits lower and back inside the chassis further. I have had both TJM and ARB. I prefer the TJM winch mounting and ARB bar.

i have an arb winch bar and a winch fitted to my 97 disco with airbags and the winch fits underneath the bar in between the chassis rails. there fore the crush cans will not be affected when winching. it does however leave the winch a bit supceptible to damage.

A few reasons I guess...

1) the winch's weight is all on the chassis - the strongest place for it to be

2) for intense recovery so that there is no chance of the 'crash cans' getting stretched/warped (although as we are finding out this is not likely to happen unless you tap some sandstone with your nose).

3) the winch may sit further back and possibly above a kick ass bash plate (if you've had one installed) keeping it safer.


Any other reasons?

The ARB airbag approved bar, the winch mounts to a cradle between the rails;)
