    jangly front steering and suspension

    Hey All

This may sound funny...but my front steering/suspension feeling 'jangly'. When going over speed bumps, pot holes etc the front seems to make a lot of noise...sort of like everything is loose and moving around.

I always check everything out when I change the tyres and havent noticed anything obviously wrong. Could this just be worn bushes? or perhaps the springs are not seated properly? The Disco has about 175,000 on it...

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Cheers

i'd be lying on the floor and looking into it, many things can make it seem funny.
did this begin recently, like suddenly or have you just begun to think it is a problem?

Yeah I have noticed it for a while...think its getting worse though. And the steering feels slightly more vague...

Only guessing, but the most likely problem is worn bushes or worn tie rod ends. It would be a good idea to check all of these. It is possible although relatively unlikely that there is something coming loose, such as a panhard rod bolt, that may fail suddenly and disastrously, although I think general wear is more likely - this is unlikely to cause sudden failure but will degrade handling and should be fixed. On the other hand, I had the experience once where the outer shield on the steering damper came loose - and jangly is a good description, although it represented no degradation in any respect and no danger of sudden failure.

    A D2 Right?

I would check the tightness of the upper front shock bolts, as they will make a horrendous noise when even slightly loose. You'll find one partly obscured under the coolant bottle, the other near the A/C lines on the Passenger side. 18mm spanner size.

"Jangly' a new term in the description of all problems landrover.

I hope you find the cause , having a 'jangly' sounds serious.

maybe the balance antivibrator, big rubber thingy, near the front diff has come loose, I recall a similar post, where something similar happened, wasn't described as jangly though,
