    Defender leaks

OK, in the heavy rain of late, I've noticed I have a leak (No surprises there then) but I just want to check I'm on the right track with my thinking.

After the rain, I get a puddle in the middle of the passenger footwell, but nothing obviously wet along the roof line to indicate where it's coming from.

Having done a search and found a few threads talk about door seals, could the water be coming in through the door seal at the top but running down in the door and puddling on the floor when it tries to drain out the bottom?

More likely to be around the windscreen seal. That was the problem with mine, only on the driver's side

I'd try sealing around the boxes that house your clutch and brake pedals. Where they mate against the firewall in the engine bay.

Only problem is, I don't see any water on the A pillar or coming down from the bulkhead/firewall, just the puddle with no wet areas leading to it.

Need to sit in it when it's ****ing down, I think.

Do you have a roof rack fitted? My defender leaked as the 'full length' roof rack (apparently) bent the frame around the tops of the windscreen. Water ran down the pillars and ended up at my feet.

This happened to me and a mate of mine – we shortened the roof racks and re-sealed around the windows… problem was fixed.

It had a roof rack on when I bought it, which I only took off a couple of months ago when I put the roof tent and bars on instead. Will check that, thanks.

Major problem I've had with mine has been the windscreen hinges. These are badly designed for sealing and the water comes in along the bolts screwed into them from the inside. But then I have never had a roof rack......

My 110 usually stays dry, but the passenger footwell also got a bit damp during the recent heavy rain. Haven't tracked down the leak yet. Mine has never had a roof rack fitted.

That's what I thought, until I flicked the sun visor up. Copped a facefull of cold water from the top edge of the windscreen. Under the seal from outside, up between glass and seal, back down straight into my face.
Solution? Put the visor back down.

    Shorty.

    Defender leaks

During my 40k service, I had them check up on a leak in the passenger footwell. Last time (20k service) they checked the door seals, and did not fix the leak. I have been able to see traces of water along the edge of the Defender air con unit. Seems to be coming from under the dash area. They re-sealed the hinge on that side, and with the last two days of "light" rain, no water on the floor. I do also have a full length roof rack. I hope this fixes the problem, as it has leaked from new.
There was a link recently that had the manual for diagnosing, and fixing defender water leaks.
    Good luck,
    Ken
