Rangie roofs don't unbolt. Unless you attack it with the plasma or grinder. To chop the roof would be an absolute ***** of a job and IMO you'd be better off making a convertable or ute.
You know how when you have a couple drinks and it’s late and you think, Hey that just might work ! Well here goes, (just a thought though) so don’t laugh, too much.
The vehicle licensing judge a vehicle height or lift by it’s overall height.
It just occurred to me that the RRC roof stands proud of the gutter about 3” do you think it would be possible/legal/safe to unbolt the roof and replace it with a custom/diy roof that is about 2” lower?
That way you could have a 2” lift AND bigger tyres and still be legal !
Opinions on this harebrained scheme.

I don't know about later rangies, but those i know of use phillip head screws.
Getting back on topic, I wouldn't go to the trouble, because my gut feel is it would not get around lift restrictions. This is the first I have heard of measuring overall height to determine lift.
i phoned the VL place in WA once and they said they put the vehicle under a level beam to determine overall height
may just ahve been a case of "who ya talk to on the day"
You must be pretty short Stevan,my head touches the roof in our Rangie,it has them flash chairs with armrests.
And yes the roofs do unbolt, ours came with a spare.

I had heard talk of similar here in Sydney as a method to get around the height restrictions. I was thinking similar for my series Landy bubble roofed ute if it needed it - almost like a body drop.![]()

see andy thats coz you have those flashy chairs with arm rests and two feet of butt padding !
<- padding on the chair that is ;-)
I'm not quite as tall as you and I would so there's maybe 6" easy above my head. It's probably one of those things I just think about and never do anythink about. Like I said I was just wondering really.
