That's what I assumed :) The old part number doesn't seem to match anything on the Australian websites, nor part supplier's databases. It seems the only people who care/know about these things reside here :)

Thanks for the tip. I got put onto the Arncliffe (Sydney) dealer, Suttons' truck parts. If I get stuck, I know to try the marine and industrial divisions.

The local auto elec replaced the insides of (rather new) cases for half that, and had it back to me by lunch time today for me to bolt back on this arvo.

Once started, I disconnected it the solenoid lead and drove it over to him to look for what caused it to engage while driving.

Thanks to cal415 for his offer of helping troubleshoot it after Stockton. And also to Dobbo for his lamb oil spray to clean the contacts, and offer to leave the County over at his place on the weekend.

Well, this thread just got linked and I see I never finished the story!

The auto electrician said there was something glitchy with the ignition switch and when it troubled a previous owner, instead of fixing it they hooked the starter into the glow plug circuit, which apparently engaged it sometimes while driving.

WOULD LIKE TO LET YOU KNOW I HAVE PURCHASED A STARTER LIKE THIS PART# M3T67471 BEFORE FROM A US COMPANY CALLED RAREELECTRICAL.

Kim from Land Ranger said 1200 bucks for a new army starter, i got one fitted by the auto electrician up the road for 600 bucks. i can follow up if you wish??

Hello everyone, been a while since I've been on here.

I hope done right thing trying to dig up an existing thread re 4BD1 starter motors.

The old Mitsubishi 12 volt starter has got very lazy over time and is at point heating up all the cables whilst cranking off two 850cca batteries. I haven't bothered to look inside as over 30 years old etc.

If this Denso knock off works out, I'm happy to give the old Mitsu unit to anyone for spares as some of it should be salvageable.

I had concerns as looks a lot different. Especially fitting the turbo dump pipe back in as was pretty snug in there.

Only concern I have is the terminal is very close to chassis. Time will tell.

Little bit of wiring to sort out as previous owner had heap of circuits running from here.

Hi you have a very dead Mitzi str throw it over left shoulder . The denso type is a better str org p/n 028000-6561 or 6560 ashy p/n nxs609 610incl or Baxter’s ns8348 680incl off the street prices .pm me l can supply through my auto electrical business. That str has been in mesh when running check key sw and str relay.

Had something similar with the geared starter in a 350 in my POS recently. Was only moving it a few meters, turned it off and there was 'the bad smell'. Seemed to be coming from the starter. Flattened the battery pretty quickly.

Disconnected the battery and undid the cover on the adaptor plate so I could see if the starter had stayed engaged, which it had.

On a Chev the starter is bolted on with 2 vertical bolts @ 90 degrees to the starter shaft.

Correct meshing of starter gear to flex plate is achieved with shims. Mine hadn't retracted because the bolts were loose and there was too much friction to disengage.

A bit disconcerting, but seems to be ok atm. Am using a battery disconnect switch till I get time to pull the starter and have a look at the pattern on the teeth, etc.

Doesn't look like Isuzus could have this problem,with the use of a flange mount. Interested to know if anything electrical could cause it in my case.
