I have only plugged the vacuum tube at the moment, easy peasy.I doubt the exhaust pressure pre turbo would be strong enough to open the EGR,it takes quite an effort to open it with a screw driver.
I do have a nut missing from the exhaust manifold so I will look at making a blank when I do the next service/replace the nut/do Tombraiders manifold mod.
Luckily the early TD5s dont have the water cooled EGR

Yep, mine is, and I've just unplugged the electrical connector from the EGR modulator.

Actually, I've plugged my own connector in along with my own connector for the ILT modulator so that I can kill the engine if it tries to self-destruct with oil from the turbo.

Pics, Schematics and what a bloody good idea...Im working up a similar plan that uses 4 soda stream bottles to dump co2 into the air box and engine bay in the event of engine bay fire but this sounds like a better idea for the TD5.

All I've done is install a switch that will supply 12v (fused) directly from the battery to both the modulators. I got 2 injector connectors from a wrecking yard to plug into the modulators. It will only work if the vehicle has an in-line throttle valve.
It also works as an anti-theft device, for as soon as the vacuum pump/alternator spins fast enought to create some vacuum, the ILT & EGR valves are operated. Touch the throttle or turn on the a/c and the engine stalls!
There's no problem leaving 12v supplied to the modulators (all day at least), even though they are normally operated by a variable frequency 12v pulse.
I also have a home-built engine monitor that will operate these valves if oil pressure is lost.

Once you have cleaned it, there is nothing to be gained rom deleting it except maybe a bit of light throttle sensitivity, no fuel economy, no extra power.

It is there to cool combustion on light throttle, and reduce NOx. It closes on heavy throttle.

I and many others used to ditch them back when petrol engines first had them, but I hope I have learned something since then.
    Regards Philip A
