I would replace it. They are supposed to only have a finite life anyway. Yours was very finite.
What about a late model wreck . Any canister about the same size should do, say from a Holden or Falcon.
If you decide to ditch it, the thing to do is drill a hole in the fuel cap, or you could just say put a little Ryco filter on the end of the line from the tank, but I would be worried about the fumes in the engine bay.
How did the fire happen? Was the canister involved? An LPG backfire?
