    Help with spring rates for a Defender 90

    Am just about to fit new springs and shocks to my 90. I already have a set of Bilstein shocks ready to go but I am still not 100% sure on the spring rates to use.

    I have been tossing up between various Kings, Lovell’s and Dobinson’s springs. The fronts all around 220 to 235lb mark, but the rears vary from 220 up to over 330lb. Obviously the spring lengths are all different and all claim to give around a 40-50mm lift. I was hoping that someone who has fitted new springs to their 90 (or is a LR suspension guru...) could help out with a bit of advice in this regard….

    I don’t tow anything and the 90 is never really loaded up with heavy gear. The only extra weight on the back is a Kaymar rear wheel carrier. I am wanting comfortable ride quality (YES!! an oxymoron when referred to a Defender ) and good articulation basically. And I am planning to keep the sway bars fitted for insurance purposes.

    Any help, experiences or advice greatly appreciated….

    my rates are now 220lb @440mm front and 175lb @ 500mm rear. yes thats the right way around.

    that gives me a guard height of 570-580mm( center of wheel to lip on flare)

    Phil, you certainly DO know what you are talking about. Your advice and opinions have always been helpful and respected.

    Thanks for those rates and lengths. I'm not planning on lifting my 90 as much as yours, but the spring rates are very helpful. I will be going for the lighter springs in the rear end.

    just make the free height of the springs 30mm lower.
    i havent got any sway bars on and its still pretty upright to drive.
    can even lift an inside wheel if going to fast
