whats a better safer and stronger option with shock mods

I agree, unless you are going to be doing some pretty extreme stuff I would suggest you start with a mild lift which you can get off the shelf and have on the car in a couple of hours. I am takling about something like the ARB (or OME) 40mm or 2" lift kit as this has been deisgned and tested for the D2 and they have done all the hard work for you. I have spent many hours debating about whether to go higher, longer etc etc but in the end the effort and expense has held me back so i have remained with a 40mm spring lift and have only added longer shocks to the rear for a little bit of extra travel......work in progress:D For your info though, I go pretty hard withmy D2 and it to date has taaken me up and down pretty much everything I have thrown at it with a 40mm lift. A lot comes down to tyre choice and driver skill IMHO. The rest you can add as you go and by that I mean, lockers, gear ratios, external protection etc etc.
I would hazard a guess (and please excuse me if I am off the mark here) that you are seeking a 40mm spring lift with shocks to match so the ARB/OME kit would be a good buy IMHO and will set you back from memory around the $1300 fitted mark from ARB or the like.

True, for most 2" is perfect, but I guess it really depends on what you're chasing. 2" is easy and probably very good value especially for tourers, but when you want to go that little bit further with the suspension so you can go that little bit further etc, it all starts to cost and the value for money starts to drop. To get to where I am has been expensive, but that's just what I do for fun. I think my next project (After the IIa ute) may be hotting up a tractor :lol2:.

I agree Mick, the 2" lift will go a long long way!

I'm not saying don't do it, all I'm saying is it's not necessary on a D2, in standard trim the later D2's (2002 on) can fit 265/75/R16 on standard suspension setup. This lifts the car approx one inch over standard height, combine this with a mild lift should give enough clearance. On the articulation side of it if you have ACE fitted on your car your set to take on the world. With this setup you still have enough pennies left to buy lockers and such.

spoke to paul he advised that B46-1361 are selling now at $853 a pair 10 inch travel not prob the GU front will cost about $660 a pair then the mods

Im going down tommorrow to visit and come up with what I need perhaps I didnt understand the cost but that huge

I have 265x75x16 now on the D2, cooper STT which scrab on the mud gard at turn but thats another story hehehehehehe


the reason why I chose to do a 4 inch is well because I can hehehehe no because the 4 inch lift wasnt enough on the pootrol and figured it would be perfect for the disco due to wheel distance from front to rear being better on the disco as for lockers and that there comming to dont worry about that hehehehehehe but I enjoy that hard terian not intrested in rock hopping but I like the hard terrian
