muffler removal TDI

Sorry, but i don't believe it.

Unless someone comes up with dyno numbers to show before and after, I reckon it's a perceived benefit and not real.
The stock 300Tdi muffler is a perforated straight through design that has a larger ID than the exhaust. How can replacing this result in a huger difference ? (other than noise )

I have a 3" mandrel bend system and the improvement over stock wasn't startling. In fact I was pretty under whelmed considering all the work that went into it.

Honestly fella's, way back in the dim, dark distant past working as a race mechanic/engineer, I wouldn't mind a $ for every time a driver said a change we made was better/faster until we showed them the data readout or stopwatch.
Just cause it's louder doesn't equate to faster. ;)

Why do some people want a bit of paper to prove what other people have done has made a improvment , Maybe a 3" bling exhaust is too much for a Tdi , and maybe a race mechanic/engineer is too smart to realise that

Well ive removed my main muffler on my 300Tdi and replaced it with a hotdog and yes the difference is only on take off , why because you have decreased the back pressure from the turbo ,result being the turbo spools quicker , hey im a keyboard mechanic :D

So in my books it is worth it:cool:

Rick, No dyno numbers.:angel: No more noise.:D Turbo now spools up at least 300 rpm earlier that before (this isn't a perception but a hard fact).:eek: IMHO its certainly more tractable. Well worth the effort I think. :D

I'm with you all the way with the "noise power" mods. Been racing n mucking round with all sorts of stuff for 30 years and seen plenty of things that simply make no difference except make you deafer.

Is lack of rear end pressure going to be detrimental to a 300TDI long term? I have stuffed around with pipes on roadbikes and this was an issue that would often come up. Maybe not important for a motor with no smarts to it. But I would like to hear others opinion.

0 to 80kmh from the same set of lights on the same day, 2 hours different, first 12 sec with muffler and a bit ove 10 without.

Quote it as much as you want, now it's in writting.

It's all about air speed with turbos and the perforated straight through pipe is desighned to disrupt the flow there for increasing back presure by slowing down the airflow and in turn it also cuts down the noise via reflection off the turbulance within the muffler.

Take out the muffler and lower back pressure, increases airspeed passed the inpeller in the turbo thus spooling on boost faster, it doesnt increase the noise factor that much as the turbo it self acts as a muffler by reflection off the inpeller blades.

The sound is a bit weird but can be made a bit nicer by removing the ressy as well so you get a little bark back in the note.

It isnt a huge increase but it is an increase and for the price is well worth while.

You still have backpressure from the turbo so it's not an issue.

Probably to try and keep the noise down and deep like the V8 as it is a huge heavy thing, the increase may be more due to loosing the weight lol
