    Diff lock quotes:

    Hi all,

I have a few quotes for difflocks that i would like some input on as wo whether they are way over the top etc. I have read the numerous other threads about diff locks

    Quote 1 & 2 (Les Richmond Auto):
    1. Rear maxi fitted $3490.00. (this is the cheapest way)
    2. Rear maxi drive fitted $3850.00. (this replaces both pinion
bearings, pinion seal, electric over nematic control switch,
electric switch with mac valve operation)

Is all the other junk necessary? LRA essentially want about $1600 for instalation.

    Quote 3 (AMV):
The ARB rear diff lock kit and maxi axles will cost approximately $2500 installed + $400 for compressor and loom.

    any input appreciated.

    Thanks

mmmm Ive heard of arb diff locks for $1100 new i can get the locker fitted up in the centre for $100
You can get jmac axles for about $600 as good as maxi
A pump for $400 you say all up = $2200 in my books

An ARB Airlocker should be around $1500 fitted plus compressor, (another $400 or so), and Maxi Axles are another $660 or thereabouts. The Full Maxi locker system requires considerably more labour to fit as a hole needs to be cut in the diff housing for the actuator fork, as well as the actuator welded onto the casing etc. Hope this is of some help.....Chris.

I got an ARB locker and their smaller compressor for $1450 fitted back in June. Obviously thats without putting in stronger axels.

people whine about ARB but their prices have been fairly consistent over the years of around $1100 to $1500 for rear/fronlocker with compressor my 1990 Nissan Wagon had one fitted in 1991.

l probably only ever used it less than 3 times in life of vehicle so never bothered to fit it to anyother 4wd since

Same with 9000lb warn high rise winch sold it off with 1990 Nissan and never bothered about getting new one with anyother 4wd since, have got my tirfor from 1985 sitting in a box in garage ready to go anytime l think it may be needed along with my high rise jack bought in 1985 used in anger once.

its not their price that i don't like, i think they can be reasonable - and negotiable. Once, I pretended I was a shareholder when I got my bar (way back) and they gave me a nice 15% off...

Its their service and quality of work - 1st hand experiences.

And i also know what your saying about "use vs $". i've had that debate with myself and am still going to do it.

I like your way of thinking though

They had a promotion back in June and I got a slight club discount too. I took it to ARB Richmond as they are closest to work.

I know a few guys that go to Jamie from All Ranges 4x4 and I think he can supply and install. He is well recomended too.

ARB do the best fit of thier own gear..

With the locker they weld in protection for the lines and the fit price includes new oil...

What about a detriot locker.....Thats my choice..

    My 2 cents..

I have a Maxi locker in the back with standard vacuum activation has never let me down ( 3 years in - gets used once a month on average ))
Maxi lockers are very dear these days. If I was doing it now, I'd probably do like you an ARB locker with the Maxi axles ( or JacMac as Rangieman suggested.) ARB don't always do a quality job .. a mate with a GQ patrol had his installed by a certain ARB shop they left the air lines too short and when the axles articulated the line pulled apart.
.....but this isn't probably adding anything new for you I'll go away now
