Well today was fun... some how I ended up with loose wheel nuts on the front LH wheel. Don't know how as I am so pedantic when it comes to making sure the wheel nuts are tight (and torqued) and I check them regularly, but 4 loose nuts and 1 broken stud means I must have done something stupid.
So a few calls around and I end up getting a new hub ordered (you can't just replace the stud it seems). Is there any trick to replacing this apart from undoing the retaining nut (490Nm)?
In particular is the hub actually pressed into the bearing or is it just sleeved? If it is pressed in to the bearing how easy is it to remove and do I need additional parts besides the hub and stake nut?

dm_td5,
That is the trickiest bit, undoing the stake nut, the rest is just removing disc/pads, then undoing the 4 bolts on the rear of the hub & removing. You will also need new "O" rings as they are a seperate part!!!!
They can be a little stubborn to remove as they get stuck, drown in rost-off/crc & remove. Disconnect the abs plug at the wheel arch as it is part of the hub.
Have fun.![]()
Thanks Pete, so I have I can't just ease the hub off from the front of the bearing sleave? I take it I have to remove the whole assembly?

Have you tried contacting Blknight.aus?
He has plenty of experience repairing Land Rovers.
PM him.
The whole hub assembly just slides off the drive shaft.
The bearings are all part of the hub assembly, no race or sleeve etc.
The "O" ring seals the diff to the hub.
Cheers
OK, sounds like I need to get on the phone first thing tomorrow and make sure I've got all the parts I'll need.

Yes they are a bugger to get off, we got mine off with a rattle gun, then the rest was easy, i didn't have a compressor at the time, Phil (Discowhite) did mine.
Good luck
Baz.
Cheers Baz.
