Hi All
We were coming up the hwy from Albury on Sunday the better half was driving and the engine warning light came on after she had missed a gear and lost power she changed back to second and i think she might have over revved it for a second the light came on we pulled over and let it idle for a short time and then turned off the engine and restarted it all seemed OK we have done about 500 klms since then without any more lights coming on. what might have caused this to happen and what damage might have occurred. It is an 02 Disco TD5.
Regards
Doug
more than likely whats happened is its over revved and/or gone into overboost shortly as a result of that its hit the nuftie light. So long as it didnt get to running away and it wasnt over running for too long its unlikely that any terminal damage has been done BUT the overspeed will be logged in your ECU and will ring alarm bells at the next service that will have LR deny you any further warrenty repairs on the engine. (assuming that you have some kind of warrenty on it)
do yourself a favor tho and uncouple the hose that goes from the turbo forwards to the intercooler from the turbo and check it for oil as a precaution. Over speeding the turbo has the potential to shred the compressor side seal.
