Is it a viable transplant ?

Bloke on ebay selling a Td5 engine.

Would it be viable / possible / economically realistic to transplant into an Classic LSE RR ?

    Viable - not really
    Possible - definitely
Economically realistic - not if you're starting with just the engine

You'd be better off looking for a complete donor car (write off) to start a transplant like that.

I have seen it done in a 100 inch Rangie. They reckoned it was fantastic. I wouldn't do it.

viable - depends what you mean by viable!
    Possible - yes
    Economically realistic - absolutely not

The problem is that you have transplant not only the engine, but all its accessories, plumbing and electronics. You need a lot more than the advertised motor! And then you have to fit it all into a vehicle that was not designed for it.

When I was planning my Tdi300 swap, Andrew Richmond (L R Automotive) had just started developing his TD5 swap with modified computer etc. At the time he suggested I find a defender Td5 and computer as the better option. So may be worth speaking to him.

All I can say is that LR nutters in the UK when they have problems with a TD5, pull it out and retofit the TDi200 or Tdi300 and that is the home of the marque.

There are many RRs running around with Td1300's.

Now about the LSE - that is one car I would definitely like to have and keep.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
