You all make me feel so goood about my car

The other symptom of the car when it is not pusling/hopping is that is gutless above the 60-80 Km speed.

Put your foot down and it drops down a gear or two, revs like mad, but no real extra speed or power.

It does not pulse when in Park or Nuetral when you rev it

Sorry to hear about your issues.

You don't show any information about your location etc in your profile so it's difficult to point you in the right direction.

    A few questions for you;

How long have you owned the vehicle?

Do you have a service history on it?

When did it get it's last service and was it done by a Land Rover experienced mechanic?

How many k's has it done?

These are important questions for any make or model.

I hope you don't give up on the Rover. After all it is a 1999 model so don't expect it to run like new. It would be due for replacement of parts after 7 - 8 years of running. That's why they depreciate over time.

My suggestion would be to take to someone who knows TD5's as there could be several reasons for the problems and it might just be something easy to fix without you dismantling everything and possibly causing more heartache for yourself.

There have been cases of the intercooler hoses being sucked flat under heavy acceleration, also with the MAF, just because it looks clean doesn't mean it is.

Ignore the knockers, they are bored and have nothing to do, never argue with a fool, people tend not to notice the difference.

    I am in Darwin.

The last person to do any work on it was the dealer in darwin who cleared faults and told SLAB's that I now had coils instead of SLS.

A few days before that I had alternator taken out and rebuilt etc in which they had disconnected EGR gear and wiring loom to injectors because these came up as faults afterward.

How can you tell if MAF may have problem?

    and

Also, can I disconnect EGR gear to see if that is the problem? If so, what do I disconnect ( I have rave manual )

I have had the car for 5 years and it has been an unreliable car. It has 230K on the clock, and has been serviced regularly

Take the MAF sensor off and give it a clean with contact cleaner or carby cleaner, spray the element in the housing but don't touch it using these type of cleaner means they dry quickly and don't leave a residue.

I'm not sure about the EGR, but you can check the intercooler hoses or just replace them, at 230,000ks they probably need changing anyway.

Power loss you speak about could be the fuel pump on the way out. That's how mine went. New fuel pump in and good as new. Problem is on a TD5 you really need someone that knows them and mainly works on Landies and nothing else. I have learn't this.
