As it happens there is a set there.:)

Hi Keith,
I take it you've made the link. I was going with JM after he quoted a reasonable price but since I said I'd purchase I haven't heard a thing. You mentioned that you have detroyed a detroit with super HD axles, do you think a weaker axle, 24 spline would damage the detroit if it let go?
Cheers,
Pete
i too would like this explained.Quote:
I broke an MD 24 spline and ruined the Detroit

most of the axle breakages in LR's are when the spline swists off at the diff end. this being the case i cant see how that would destroy a detroit??
the broken piece ide guess would stay in the detroit center, and if it did come out i think it would do more damage to the CW&P the the locker its self.
cheers phil
Keith what size tyres were you running when you broke the 24 spline Maxi??
Duane
Just a further to this post. I put my Maxi Axles in tonight and I noted that one of the standard axles had twisted a couple of mm.
These axles were brand new 6 months ago (genuine from memory) interesting though the original axles that had much more punishment never twisted.
Maybe there is a real difference in quality with Rover axles??
A friend in a LC60 has done this when breaking an axle. It seems that when the axle breaks that somehow the backlash or whatever from when the axle breaks also causes the Detroit centre to shatter from how I understood it. This said, I've personally never run a Detroit.
This is what happens

I presume the axle breaks and the transference of torque shockloads the detroit apparently the very early detroits were pretty well unbreakable but the later models were not made from a solid block and shatter like this
Interesting. I picked up some 24 spline LR axles from ebay a couple of days ago, then yesterday had a panic/attack and ordered some HD axles from Keith at Rovertracks. I think the high aussie dollar had something to do with it.;)
