Rather than an easier/cheaper way (how else would you do it without a complete redesign?) simply putting noise level before durability, reflecting the fact that they are selling to a different market - luxury cars not workhorses.

Well actually it was $1300 but the warranty would only pay $1000.

Hi Andrew, yes I tow the camper trailer and the horse float using 5th. Problem with the Defender is that if you want to drive at more than 80kmh you have to use 5th otherwise you are revving the bejesus out of it (even at 80 in 4th it's getting very noisy). It is a bit better with the larger tyres though.

    Baz.
Well mine's failed 3 times. The last time they showed signs of turning blue.. 5th is the furthest from the oil pump apparently, which had failed.

I can only assume whoverever did the last oilchange on the gearbox didn't know it has a pump, & put the wrong oil in it.

Heat does shorten their life I'm adding a trans cooler this time.

It's always gfood to see an insurance company try and take the cheap option, and get stuffed paying more. Serves them right.

Bet you're blacklisted with all future cars though!
