    Stage 1 CV's - How strong

    Hi guys

I have been wondering about the CV joints on the Stage 1, I understand that are a bit of an orphan and heard rumours that they break.

How true is this story about breaking?

Are there any other stronger replacements?

I thought the CV's were range rover ones?? or am I getting confused with something else?

I don't know that's why I'm asking the question - it will may end up being "the next thing that will have to be on the shopping list will be a Range Rover parts catalogue." (I have all the series ones!)

However are'nt the RR drive flanges integral with the outer bit of the halfshaft, where the Stage 1 have seperate halfshafts and drive flanges so the CVs would be different? (and orphans)

I could be wrong - I have been before (although that was a mistake!)

    I've broken 1.

But they have lasted well on 36's and lockers.

Mind you, i drive fairly sensibly but still don't mind to use whatever the 3.5 can give me (not much )

    Cheers.

They are very similar to a County CV AUE2252???, but have a shorter stub shaft - ISUZUROVER will chime in sometime.

The part numbers are different - I checked a while ago because I had the same thought!

The track of the Stage I and RR axles is different. I was planning on asking Ashcroft or Maxidrive if they could adapt their special RR CVs for a Stage I, but I haven't got around to it yet.

    G'Day dave

I will also be using them on 36's or what ever 9.00 16 (255/100 R16, if you don't speak crossply) on 4.7:1 ENV diffs but not locked. So was wondering if I should look for alternative CV's during the build up.

They are equivalent to the county CV's - so besides those or 101's they are one of the strongest rover ever made.

Just use them, drive nicely and don't use a front locker if you don't have to.

If your worried, buy a spare from the UK and carry the appropriate tools to change them if you have too.

They are basically the same as the County 110 just 5mm shorter.
If you want to you can use the County CVs in a Stage 1 just use a bolt in end instead of a circlip on the end.
They are usually worth more than a Stage 1 to buy but you can pick up some good ones in New Zealand as the Army disposed of a heap of new ones for next to nothing.
As stated short of a 101 they are the strongest standard Rover cv you can buy.
Maxi Drive suggest/require the change to the County AE2552??? when they install a locker so they cant be that bad.
