How do you release the tensioner on the serpentine belt.

    Ok stupid question i know.

Do you loosen the main nit then reef it back with the pully?

Will it stay loose or spring back?

Any help would be great. i am trying to do it now.

to be honest i have never had to do it so dont even know but I am assuming it will be by leverage force from the centre of the pully. Either with a spanner or with a 1/2" ratchet.

Lever the tensioner, remove belt, and let the tensioner return? I could be totally wrong

I loosened the tensior out of the way but still cant stretch the belt far enough around the pullies?

    Suggestions?

on my td5 I also loosen the 4 mounting bolts on top of the air con compressor this helps to loosen the belt a bit more.

That's the right belt. It should go on easy. I had more trouble with the serpentine belt than the A/C one.
Make sure the tensioner is loosened right off.

Yes. That's exactly the belt that I have fitted to mine. It's a Disco, but it shouldn't matter.
Make sure that the belt is fitted around the crank pulley correctly and isn't sitting up on the ribs.
As a last resort, you could take the tensioner off completely, fit the belt and refit the tensioner.

You might want to check that the old belt is the same as the new one too. Hold them together to compare lengths.

i put either a large shifter on the pulley or a socket with a large bar stand off centre and pull up that takes the tension off the belt, now this is the hard part, you have to keep pressure on it,Thats why a large socket bar or shifter is better for leverage,
with one hand with the other just slide the belt from under it once its free you can relax it.

the air con tensioner, put a socket head in the square hole loosen the three bolts and it will loosen.( isn;t that the bit that broke earlier this year???)
To tension it up don't have the bolts too loose finger tight worked for me, put pressure on the socket via the centre and then do the bolts back up. For this you need three hands.

    I hope it makes sense
