    Settings for unleaded

Hey Just purchased a series III 88, it has the 2.25 motor. As a starter question I would just like to ask any body about running on unleaded, I see that manual advises to run on 3 degress ATDC, is there anything else that needs to be done? I read the manual on the distributer setting but the manual does not specify if this is for the old super or the 91 octane.

    A little confused.

Often these issues have been addressed before so the search function can reveal previous threads on the same topic and what is great is that you don't have to wait for a reply to get the answer.

I searched "super petrol" and came up with this thread which looks just the answers you were looking for.

First I would dump the dissy and get an earlier model dissy that actually ADVANCES the spark and set the timing to 3 to 6 degrees BTDC and use Upper Cylinder Lube.
The advance dissy has the vacuum canister on the opposite side to the late model dissy, try it you will be surprised how much better it runs, Regards Frank.

wouldn't pay too much attention to the factory specified idle setting,(other than as a rough starting point) just run up a big hill on a hot day, lugging around 2 - 3000rpm and keep advancing the dizzy untill it starts pinging then back off the timing a bit. use regular fuel, you'll be fine. you may have to comprimise this optimal setting with idle quality though. (or get a re-graph on the dizzy $$ )

I just read Crossy's signature, how can I ear tune the Series III if its only got 1 speaker and I'm deaf in that ear?

you need to sit on top of the seat backs, rest your head and shoulders on the steering wheel and lean back with your left hand hanging down to hit the loud pedal while you jiggle the radio control knobs with your right hand...

These old beasties were meant to be tuned by ear and dismantled with a set of mismatched Whitworth bed spanners! Your ears can get very oily whilst tuning...........
