RRC Starter Brushes
My wifes 1988 RRC needs brushes for the starter motor. I've pulled it out and there's a 4 brush pack that sits in at the end.
Does anyone know where I can get one, or have a part no.
I'm hoping I can do the repair and save on getting a reco unit.
It's a Lucas M78R (1.4).
Thanks in advance, Michael2

Okay, here's what I found out
The starter is a Marelli (gear reduction unit), with a Lucas sticker on it.
No one had the brushes and every one wanted to sell me a new starter motor.
Starter motors ranged in price from $200 - $365.
$200 was from Fred Smith for an African made unit, but he also had $300+ Marelli units (with Lucas stickers on
).
Range Rov had Bosch units for $250, which is what I'd go for if I had to...
But Fred found a 2nd hand Brush set with plenty of life on the brushes which I got for $10. Phew
.
I did have to spend some $$$ on a HEX drive set to get the bolts off the starter, but that's okay now I've got more tools.

Range Rover Starter
The starter on my '89 Range Rover has packed it in, I suspect that it is worn brushes etc. It is a M78R unit.
To cover all options, does any one know the LR part number for the Starter Motor for a '89 RR. It was re-motored approx two years ago with a 4.6L V8, but as I am fairly sure the starter was carried over from the old motor, so I presume that the same starter will fit several RR V8 motors (3.5L, 3.9L, 4.6L etc).
A local autoelectricion is having a look at the old starter. Hopefully he will report that he will be able to recondition the old one
Thanks
